I use this shampoo before the matching conditioner and I find I don’t need very much at all. Initially it feels like a conditioner more than a shampoo but after a bit of massaging the lather develops and it is thick and gently creamy rather than foamy and frothy. I only use just over an inch long worm of the product squeezed out of the tube. It is pretty thick in consistency and spreads easily through my wet hair. My hair is pretty short at the moment so obviously if you have longer hair you will need to use more. I love the way the shampoo lathers so creamily and it feels like silk as opposed to cotton in my hair.

I rinse the shampoo out and then follow this with the matching conditioner. I don’t know what the shampoo would be like without using the conditioner as I never wash my hair without conditioning . I do make an effort to follow the advice and use tepid water and running water so that my hair is really clean.

WHY AVOID SLS ?
A sulfate is a chemical cleaning agent or detergent and that can remove oils from the hair and skin. The most normally used sulfate is sodium lauryl sulfate, and sadly this is found n products such as toothpastes, shaving foams and shampoos. These have been found to cause skin allergies and may be linked to cancer.
Most products that create a lather contain surfactants. They are in there because they disrupt the hydrogen bonding in water and then the sulfate is able to penetrate clothes or hair or whatever allowing it to spread evenly and lather up well.

SLS can cause eye irritation, scalp irritation, tangled hair, swelling of the hands, face and arms and split and fuzzy hair. There are more alarming reactions from prolonged use of products with SLS but if you are concerned then I suggest you look this up yourself. Suffice to say that this is NOT a nice ingredient and is only used in these products as it is cheap.

GENTLE ON YOUR HAIR

When you colour your hair you are already exposing it to chemicals and so it needs a bit of TLC to maintain the colour. Shampoos and conditioners with SLS strip the colour from your hair so if a shampoo or conditioner has a lot of alcohol it will strip the colour from your hair leaving it dry and brittle.
This shampoo has been created without SLS or alcohol and is very gently on the hair. This shampoo smells quite pleasant but not really strong, the conditioner that goes with it smells stronger in my opinion.

If you do have coloured hair they suggest you should wash your hair in tepid water rather than very hot water. Don’t rub your hair dry with the towel, you should gently squeeze your hair in the towel and pat it dry so that you don’t damage the hair strands.

Strongest points
The fact that it is free from SLS and other nasties. I am always looking out for products that are kinder to the environment and to me. I was quite delighted to see that that a large company like L’Oreal was producing a sulphate free product. I have only recently discovered that L’Oreal actually own Body shop so maybe that philosophy is carrying over to the mother company. This range promises:
“EverPure Colour Care Products are 100% vegan with no sulfates, harsh salts, or colour-stripping ingredients. An exclusive Anti-Fade System features UV Filters for long-lasting colour purity”
Weakest points
The price is quite high compared to some
Summary
A high quality shampoo that works well and hopefully helps colour last a bit better because of UV filters etc

I love this for keeping my coloured hair looking great for a long time. Feels gentle on my scalp and nourishing on my hair. My hair feels like I have just walked ojut of a hair salon every time. For me this is worth the cost as it works and you only need to use a small amount.
Weakest points
None for me

Strongest points
Little goes a long way.
Lathers first time.
Weakest points
None
Summary
This shampoo is first class for keeping coloured hair true to it's colour and stops it from fading. It nourishes the hair and leaves it feeling smooth and eliminates any frizz. You only need a small amount for it to lather so it will last for ages. It compares to any salon product available only from hairdressers, so keeps the cost down for using a premium product.

Strongest points
Not tested on animals, organic ingredients, widely available, lathers well, good cleansing properties.
Weakest points
A little expensive.
Summary
This creamy shampoo lathers very well, even on the first shampoo. It has a scent faintly reminiscent of visits to the hairdressers when I was a little girl. It has good cleansing properties, but conditions well and doesn't leave dry hair feeling straw-like. Combined with the conditioner, this product leaves hair feeling nourished and with body.
