Comme des Garçons new 2016 fragrance, Black Pepper is intoxicatingly warm and mysterious. It is a powerful fusion of molecules that collide and harmonise. This electric frisson of elements defies what is expected of a spicy fragrance, instead deconstructing the codes of pepper to present a dynamic new intensity. This is spice as seen through the eclectic, exploratory lens of Comme des Garcons.
Blackpepper presents a warm and dry version of pepper, captured effortlessly by the distinctive tones of Madagascan pepper. This is set against the cracking fire of cedarwood, before the richness of akigalawood fuses with the caramel tones of tonka bean. Available in 50ml and 100ml.
This is expensive but CDG perfumes and EDT are expensive. I like their fragrances so may be biased but this is a great peppery, spicy scent
Great unisex scent if you like more male scents which I do
wonderful notes of black pepper, oudh, cedar, patchouli, tonka bean and musk
lasts really well on my skin
If you like the scent of freshly ground pepper then this one is for you
Usual CDG bottle design - quirky
not easily bought
A great CDG fragrance that I struggled to get the sample of. A lovely woody peppery aroma that lasts well on my skin
+ great longevity
+ strong musky and woodsy scent
+ interesting design
+ best for cold season
- smells like any other masculine perfume
- not a unisex
Blackpepper strikes with its peppery notes only within 30 mins after spraying. After that, for me, it smells like any other similar masculine perfume, i.e. woodsy (like moss) and musky. It is very persistent in terms of longevity and becomes rather mild after the spice wears off. Although the scent is designed to be a unisex one, but it is a definitely not feminine for me. It will suit for an elegant 35+ man due to its velvety texture and distinct cedar wood undertone. This EDP is a great one to wear in the cold season since it has some warmth to it.
However, I am not eager to recommend it - mostly due to a high price and rather common scent.
