I have an obsession with cleansers. Not sure what it is, they aren't the most exciting item around but I'm constantly on the search to find one that actually does something for me. I have way too many half empty bottles (ok, that's being generous. Most of them I give up on way before half a bottle has gone) hanging around because they'll cleanse my face, but they don't seem to have that little extra something that makes me want to be loyal to that cleanser.
I'll admit it took me a while of eyeing up this cleansing balm and all the reviews before I was ready to take the plunge and spend £34 on a cleanser, but it was inevitable in the end xD
One thing I knew from reading reviews before purchasing was the packaging was known for cracking and product getting down the sides and leaking and general mess. So from the moment I got it I was overly aware of how I treated it and was particularly gentle with opening and closing the lid. Within a few days the first crack appeared. And within a few weeks there were several. However I don't travel with this at all and it just stays in it's same spot in the bathroom, so fortunately I've not had any product leakage. I had thought there was a possibility that mine might not crack as they had a revamp of the packaging. Originally they were smaller and taller, but now they're shorter and wider. I actually prefer the older design (though imagine the new one is easier for getting the last of the cleanser out at the end). Unfortunately it looks like they didn't make any changes to whatever causes it to crack so easily. Other than that issue I do like the look of the packaging though.
This is a balm cleanser so I find it a bit rich to use in the morning and I just use it in the evening. It is scented (though I couldn't say what of) but it's fairly subtle and you don't really notice it when you're using the cleanser. This can be used to remove all makeup including eye makeup and I have used it for this and find it works well, however it does get in my eyes (no sting or discomfort at all, but things get a little blurry) and if I'm wearing heavy makeup I don't like the idea of that being left on my face while I'm still cleansing, so I actually remove eyemakeup with a micellar water first.
The advantage of a balm cleanser I find is that it encourages me to take the time with my cleansing and enjoy it while giving myself a facial massage and really working the product in, rather than rushing it as I'm am prone to do with other cleansers. I've seen different ways of people applying this, but personally I prefer to apply to a dry face and give it a good massage before adding any water in to the mix. And for removing it I use warm water with a flannel.
It can also be used as an overnight mask, I've only done this once and while my skin felt extra hydrated in the morning, it didn't make a huge difference, and it is kind of awkward having to sleep with a towel over your pillow, and even then half of it probably gets wiped off pretty soon. I do often leave it on my skin while I'm having a bath though, which I always enjoy.
In terms of the effects this cleanser has had on my skin, it definitely isn't as dry as it used to be before I was using this and now that we're coming up to winter I feel my skin will appreciate the extra hydration even more. One thing I did notice that I haven't really seen mentioned elsewhere is that it really seems to help with red angry looking spots. I don't get many but usually have a couple at nay one time, and I notice the morning after I've used this they're often a lot less red. I went a few days without using it at one point and definitely noticed my spots looked redder than usual. I'm not entirely sure why it has this effect, but at least for me it definitely calms down my skin.
I feel like I've been using this for ages but just checked my email and it's been just over two months. I'd say I wasn't even half the way through the pot yet though (keeping in mind I only use it once a day). But if it does last 4-5 months with regular use I'm actually pretty impressed with that.
Whatever product I happen to be using (makeup, skincare etc.) I'm almost always looking for the next thing that will outperform my current choice, and I rarely even finish it before moving on to something else. But this has definitely become a staple in my skincare routine and I will most definitely be repurchasing when it is finished. It's the first cleanser that has really felt like it's doing something extra for my skin and it does it so well that I'm not interested in trying anything else.
This is a lovely cleanser. I was lucky enough to get to Trial this one. It has a gently not overpowering scent, which i thought woudl put me off as it has afew oils i don't particularly like. This was not the case. It applies easily to a damp face, let it rest for a few minutes, the with the warmed (luke warm water) cleanisng cloth, gently removed the cleanser, it comes off with ease. Removes makeup and even masacara, but do remember to wash the cloth. It leave the face feeling clean, soft and hydrated. no tightness, even although it has uplifting elements, they aren't tightening nor drying. Its a lovely cleanser, alittle expensive, as there are other brands with natural ingredient on the market doing the same.
