Having just read a fab article which dispells all myths about sun protection, I wanted to share the products recommended. One of these has been recommended to me before by a medical doctor who specialises in anti-ageing treatments such as fillers/botox. Her recommendation was that we should use a minimum SPF 50+ every day, even in winter, and reapply every two hours regardless - if we want to avoid premature ageing.
The article in InStyle says we should use about a generous teaspoon on our faces and two generous tablespoons of SPF on our body for each application. Using foundation with SPF will NOT protect you as you don't apply enough. Apply a layer of SPF underneath. Get your vitamin D from food sources and supplements rather than exposing your skin to carcinogenic UVB rays. Body SPF products are heavier and may cause breakouts on the face. A tan is actually evidence that your skin is damaged, as it produces more melanin (the tan colour) to defend itself! The only safe tan is a fake one.
Here are the recommended products:
La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Etreme Fluid SPF 50+ £16.50 from
The doctor I spoke to recommended Obagi and Avene. I currently use Avene and am very happy with how it feels on my face. She told me that finding the perfect SPF is difficult, as some will cause a breakout, it varies from person to person.
Now the sun has finally made an appearance, get sun protection and don't take any risks this Bank Holiday! Have a great weekend everyone!
