For the vegans amongst you this has no animal products at all and is vegan friendly carrying the Vegan friendly symbol on its bottle label.

What you get is a golden coloured reasonably thick shampoo that smells strangely not of honey which I found odd considering that it is 50% honey. It smells sweet and slightly slightly floral which must be the neroli and rose oils. It isn’t the best scent I have ever smelled in a shampoo but it is perfectly pleasant and not offensive in any way to me. It is a much nicer scent that the Blousey shampoo in my view.

 My experience

I was really looking forward to using this one as I do dye my hair and am constantly aware that I must feed it with moisturising goodies in order to keep it in good condition because of using these rather harsh dyes.

I scooped out only a very small amount of this shampoo into my fingers from the black pot mine came in as mine was a generous sample from the lovely people in my local Lush shop. I massaged it into my wet hair. My hair isn’t long and I really need the smallest amount to get a lovely creamy lather.

The amount I used was two fingers dipped in the shampoo and I used what came out on my fingers.The scent is hard to describe and I really struggled to pick out any strong scents in this but it did give a really luxurious but light lather.

When I rinsed the shampoo out my hair felt almost squeaky clean which it doesn’t usually and I did feel that it needed conditioner. I wasn’t about to test drying my hair without having conditioned it so I can’t say what it would be like but it did feel very stripped clean when rinsed.

Update since writing that last bit and being the thorough reviewer that I am I decided to test the shampoo without conditioner. It does feel a bit drier and slightly less silky than I would normally like having dried it but it actually smells really nice as the rose and neroli essential oils come through quite strongly. I don’t think I would use it without a conditioner but it didn’t feel too dry and unfed afterwards so it can be done, if you have greasy hair then you may well get away with it but my hair is quite dry.

 What have they added and Why?

Half of this product is Honey, Fair trade honey and only the best and so why is honey so important for hair that they put 50% in this shampoo?

Honey’s natural sweeteners nourish the hair and honey retains water and moisture, allowing it to hydrate hair whilst at the same time also providing copper, iron, manganese, calcium, sodium, potassium, phosphorous and Vitamin B.

Honey is also supposed to help with hair loss and itchy scalps. It is said that if you rub a mix of honey and cinnamon on your scalp for two or three minutes daily it will stimulate hair growth. I am not sure how true this is but if you suffer from thinning hair it might be worth a try.

You can also use honey as a shine treatment for hair. If you coat your hair with honey and leave it for ten minutes before washing as usual you will find that the honey works as a clarifying and conditioning treatment, leaving you with healthy and shiny hair. Read more

• Linseed Mucilage creates a gel-like texture in the shampoo as well as benefitting the hair by adding the seeds’ vitamin and mineral content to the hair.
• Sunflower Lecithin is good for healthy hair growth.
• Geranium Essential Oil is thought to have a balancing effect on the nervous system, sebum production and circulation and is a natural antiseptic.
• Beeswax Absolute is there for its soothing, protective and antiseptic properties benefitting both the scalp and hair.
• Neroli is here for its scent and also it is “one of the few essential oils to be scientifically proven to increase serotonin production in the brain.” So a feeling of goodwill is created when this oil is smelled.
• Rose Oil is great for its scent and it is perfect for dry rough skin so is here to feed and soothe the scalp as well as add scent.
• Bergamot Oil is here for its antibacterial qualities and its acidity encourages the hair to lie flat, giving great shine and gloss to the hair.

What do I think of this?

I found it was a lovely shampoo to wash my hair with. It felt great while massaging it into my hair. When i rinsed it out I thought my hair felt rather stripped but after conditioning it and then drying it my hair was left with a lovely light feeling. It was quick to dry and easy to style, i dry my rather curly, frizzy hair straightish and it lay nicely and almost even looked shiny. My hair really never look s shiny because it is wavy but it did have a bit of a sheen as I dried it straightish and I loved the way it felt smooth, light and not weighed down at all.

I only wash my hair every second day and even on day two it still looked and felt good. I can’t say the smell of the shampoo did much for me, it didn’t smell sweet and honey like, more herby with a slight citrus sweet aroma.

I really recommend Lush for all the lovely things in this shampoo but I am disappointed to see that it does have Sodium Laureth Sulfate which I know you do need a surfactant but this has been considered controversial and there are other more natural ones that could be used.

I loved the shampoo but do think it is quite expensive for the amount you get. You do however only need a small amount so it may well work out as economical as a cheaper one in the long run. Write a review
