Description

CARDAMOM+COFFEE BODY SCRUB is a wonderfully indulgent and aromatherapeutic way to exfoliate, firm and antioxidize skin and underlying tissue.

Ingredient benefits:
+Coffee beans are a great source of caffeine which is a wonderful antioxidant proven in many studies to actually break up cellulite deposits and tighten skin with external application.
+Cane sugar is not only exfolating, but also provides glycolic acid which conditions, moisturizes and protects skin from toxins.
+Cocoa, coconut and shea butters are highly nourishing, healing, and protective emollients that readily absorb into skin for lasting health and beauty.
+Castor oil is a remarkable ingredient that possesses numerously beneficial attributes for skin enhancement including anibacterial, antiviral, skin healing and tightening effects.
+Cardamom essential oil further aids detoxification of the body with its stimulating attributes; the skin with its antibacterial, anitviral and antioxidizing constituents; and is aromatherapeutically uplifting for the emotions and arousing for the mind.

Directions

Extract a modest amount from jar & emulsify with a bit of warm water as you massage into skin in circular & sweeping motions from feet & hands toward heart {to encourage lymph flow}.

Summary
I'm not a huge fan of body care. My beauty obsession started with haircare and moved on to skincare a few years later, but I've never been able to work up much excitement when it comes to things for my body. They're more about function than indulgence.

I saw this mentioned on a monthly favourites video a while back and the word Coffee was enough to gain my interest, I then looked it up and saw the price and my interest vanished. Or at least I thought it had. Over the next few months I kept thinking about it but could never really bring myself to make the purchase because the price just seemed too high for me to justify on a body product. Eventually I just had to buy it, it was either going to be a wise decision, or a big regret but either way I'd know and stop obsessively staring at the website xD

The first thing that surprised me when it arrived was the size and weight of the thing. It was pricy, but as it's higher end I'd honestly expected it to be smaller and was rather pleasantly surprised by the amount of product in it. It is also in a glass jar. A very heavy glass jar. I have admittedly dropped it once, but it was in my room at the time and on a carpeted floor. Since then I've been a lot more careful with it as I don't know how it would cope on a hard floor, though it does feel pretty solid I really wouldn't like to test it out.

The label is plain white with black writing but it looks modern rather than cheap and is something I love to display (it usually lives in my bedroom as it's not something I use daily). I have got the label covered in product and wet in the past but the label wipes clean and there's not been any discolouration/peeling of the label where it's been wet. A small thing but something I really appreciate.

Now (finally) on to the actual product. This stuff smells amazing. I love my coffee and that was the main reason I was so attracted to it in the first place, but I was still blown away by the scent. It is strong and most definitely not to everybody's tastes, but I absolutely adore it. It's predictably a very dark colour (think coffee) and quite grainy in texture, but it's not quite as dry as some scrubs and as you should have wet hands as well it becomes almost a paste type texture which is a lot easier to apply to your body and actually stay there (I have experience of many body scrubs that refuse to stick to my skin and just fall off before I can scrub with them).

It gives a nice scrub, however it's not quite as harsh as some I've used. If I want a really good scrub for my legs (which get incredibly itchy and do love a nice hard scrub) I still prefer Buffy from Lush, however that is far too harsh for me to use on my arms and upper legs. This is perfect for those and still satisfying to sue on my lower legs. You're meant to use circular motions from your hands & feet towards your heart. I do this (or at least try to) and it's meant to help with lymph flow. Honestly I have no idea if it does or not, but there's no harm in following the instructions.

Rinsing off is probably easier in a shower but I've been shower-less for quite a while now so I'm stuck doing it in the bath. You can splash and rub off a decent amount of it in the bath but I'm always left with brown streaks all over myself unless I put in a bit more effort to get it off. And even then I dread to think what my towel would look like after I use it if it was white. Luckily I use a dark blue one and don't have to find out ^^ Then I turn around and look at the bath. There will be bits of it everywhere. When I'm rubbing it in I somehow manage to get it all over the tiles and cover the vast majority of the bath. It hasn't stained anything and does rinse off easily, but I know that's not something most people want to do after a bath. I don't either, but the enjoyment I get out of this scrub outweighs the pain of having to do a quick clean up after my bath.

Part of the reason the colour doesn't rinse off super easily is that you're left with a thin layer of oil (at least I assume it's oil given the ingredients) over your body. Not in a bad way, but in a way that feels lovely and indulgent and you can still feel it moisturising your skin hours later. I imagine not everyone is a fan of the sensation of the product still being on you after rinsing it off but I love it. It also means I can be lazy and skip my post-bath moisturising ^^

There are only two negative points for me. This is an indulgent scrub and usually for me that means relaxing, however before I use it I always have the knowledge in the back of my mind that after my bath I'm going to have to give the bathroom a clean and make sure I don't have any nasty looking stains left. But this does mean I use it less often than I would otherwise, meaning it lasts longer.

The second negative is the price. £31 is a lot for a body scrub. It really is. But unlike a lot of other pricy purchases I've made in the past, I don't regret this one. This isn't just something you enjoy for half an hour and it's gone. The feel and scent linger with you for hours after and I always feel like I've had such a treat when I use it. Plus the 454g size is pretty generous, especially considering I really don't use that much even when scrubbing most of my body. And then taking in to consideration that I only use it about twice a month honestly I think this could probably last me a year.

I will definitely repurchase (though I guarantee I'll still cringe a bit at the price of it) and I do recommend it, but if you don't enjoy that slightly oily feeling left on your skin (slightly oily doesn't seem a very pleasant way to describe it, but I can't find the words to describe the amazing feeling) then this isn't going to be for you. Also as far as I'm aware the only place to purchase this in the UK is Cult Beauty so you're not going to be able to test the scent before hand, and given it's so strong that's probably an issue. It is Cardamom+Coffee, and I've never smelt Cardamom in my life, but it definitely smells of something other than just coffee, so I'm gonna guess it's a pretty strong cardamom scent as well. So if you know what that smells like it's probably helpful xD

But if you're looking for an indulgent treat to add to your bodycare and are willing to take a risk on the scent, I honestly can't recommend this enough (as if you hadn't guessed from the essay long review). I've yet to get around to trying anything else from Fig+Yarrow, but I definitely intend to at some point in the future ^^
