LUSH SAY ABOUT THIS SOAP
“Sunshine on a rainy day – that’s the way to do it!”
“Here we come a wassailing with our summer punch soap of juniper berries, gin, blackcurrant absolute and lime oil.
What would happen if you left a bowl of punch from your summer garden party out on the lawn in the freezing winter? Well, Mr Punch would happen” that’s what – a bowl of fruity punch frozen in time!
Lush as most people know is a company that make different toiletries and are firmly committed to creating eco friendly products. They are vehemently against animal testing and try to buy Fair trade ingredients and use natural ingredients where they can.
I love Lush as I really support their views re animal testing and find the staff in the shops to be enthusiastic, well informed and so keen to share the benefits and excitements of their products with you and they are NEVER pushy.
Every celebration is an excuse to create new fun products and each year at Christmas Lush bring out some old reliable popular festive products such as Snow Fairy and they also bring out some new and different ones too. This Mr Punch was one of the festive offerings this year for Christmas along with quite a few products and I bought mine in the 50% sale.
The soap is made in a punch bowl shape and it multi coloured. The main colour is a dull pinkish purple but within that are chunks of green, orange black and so many other colours. My piece is all those colours in a large triangular cake sliced piece. It is quite a stunning sight in full size but even my slice has chunks of different colours floating in the main colour.
“Chunks of boozy fruit soaps in suspended animation, waiting for you to unleash the melon, cucumber and fruity fragrance notes as you wash under warm water”. The creation was inspired by Britsh summer garden parties enjoying the fruit punches or Pimms..
There is a really lovely fruity smell that comes when using Mr Punch. It really is inspirational and does remind me of fruit punch. The juniper berries and juniper oil with blackcurrant absolute , lime oil and gin, yes gin is in this one and that is why it genuinely smells of fruit punch! Lush do a few of their products with alcohol in them and I have to admit that they do appeal to me. Calacas Shower jelly and Ponche shower gel are two others that come to mind that have alcohol in them and are personal favourites.
I love the creamy lather and although my chunk was quite a large cake slice with sharp edges initially it soon softened at the edges and became comfortable to use. In fact I cut mine into smaller chunks as the piece was so large and I prefer to change my soap scents often so cut mine up smaller bits. That way I can use a different smell each week and it is always fresh and new.
I noticed that this like many other Lush soaps has a particularly creamy lather, thick and quite luscious. It feels very moisturising on my skin and the wonderfully boozy fruity scent fills the air. I find this a really happy sort of smell in the middle of winter.
I notice in the ingredients that they include both rapeseed and coconut oil so that is why I feel so moisturised after using this.
Interestingly like a a lot of Lush soaps this also contain salt Sodium chloride is simply salt. Salt is stimulating, cleansing, antiseptic and astringent. It is softening for the skin and also apparently hydrates the skin when used in moderation. It is also full of minerals, softens the water and helps to de –grease the skin, removes dead cells yet it leaves the natural oils so that your skin is left feeling soft and moisturised yet clean.
This is a soap so there is obviously going to be some sort of lathering agent and this is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is a questionable chemical agent often found in bathing products but if you are concerned you need to check.
All Lush soaps are a bit more in price than you might buy a bar in other places but they do feel a bit more luxurious to use. I am not sure I would buy this at full price but the price I paid was fair enough. A very nice non calorific and alcohol free way of enjoying a boozy filled cocktail but this soap is one that I would buy as a gift or for a treat but not one for everyday use or putting in the family bathroom to share with all and sundry!
