Grass; ganja or the stuff cows eat?

This is the product description on the website for “Grass” Shower gel:

“Now that the weather is improving, it’s time to start indulging. This new shower gel is made with our new Ninja fragrance, antioxidant wheatgrass juice, and citrus oils to bring sunshine to your days again. Lather up and inhale the deep scent of freshly mown lawns. Keep firmly on the Grass”

Now that the weather’s improving, it’s time to start indulging. This new shower gel is made the

Grass shower gel seems to be the only product from Lush with the Grass fragrance. It obviously gets its name from the main ingredient which is not cannabis but wheat grass. When they launched the shower gel in this range they had a table of wheat grass with the shower gels so you could see what they used to make it.

Grass Shower Gel comes in three sizes with prices of 100ml = £4.45, 250ml = £8.75, 500ml = £15.95. Not a cheap gel but you really do only need a tiny amount to get a good lather. When I was in the shop the bottles had the usual 'packed by' sticker on it and a use by date but I don’t get too worried by these days as I am not eating it after all. It comes in the standard Lush bottle with a flip top lid – at present these are not recyclable through Lush which their tubs are but hopefully they will do this in future. Mine of course was in a small plastic tub and had no identifying labels on it but I was there when they poured it from the bottle into my pot. At these prices I must have at least £1 s worth in my pot!

Okay enough of the story behind what is it like?

The gel is a wonderful grassy green colour and mine is quite thin – a bit like washing up liquid consistency. I dipped my finger in to the pot and the amount that came out was enough for one half of my upper body so you really need only the smallest amount to get a really good smooth lather. I like to let it soak in for a while before rinsing so that I can enjoy the lovely fresh mown grass smell.

What do they put in the green gel?

Quantitative Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Fresh Wheatgrass Juice (Triticum vulgare), Lauryl Betaine, Chlorophyllin Water (CI 75810, Aqua), Perfume, Propylene Glycol, Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austro-caledonicum vieill and Fusanus spicatus), Bergamot Oil (Citrus aurantium bergamia), Neroli Oil (Citrus aurantium amara), Fine Sea Salt, *Coumarin, *Geraniol, *Limonene, *Linalool,Methylparaben

*Occurs naturally in essential oils
The main ingredients providing the special properties in this gorgeous green goo are:

Wheat grass - contains natural chlorophyll which is renowned for its restorative, rejuvenating and skin repairing properties.

Sandalwood – lovely woody base note scent that always reminds me of India. It contains a compound called beta-santalol which has antimicrobial properties so it helps to clear skin from blackheads and spots.

Bergamot Oil – which gives Earl Grey tea its unique flavor is a lemony scented oil and is uplifting, mood enhancing , reduces anxiety and helps with travel sickness ( not so useful in the bath though ) .

Neroli Oil – adds to the Bergamot as it has an orange scent to make that fresh lighter citrusy note. Its benefits include reducing scars and stretch marks, helps with frigidity and acts as a sedative antiseptic and also with depression.

Does it feel good and work well?

I am not one for showers as I love to lie and linger in a warm bath so I use this in my bath. I love the smell I lie and close my eyes and I can imagine I’m in a swimming in a warm pool beside a freshly mown lawn but without the pain of hayfever – runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes.

The initial smell of grass moves on to the more citrus elements and what lingers on your skin are the flowery citrus notes rather than the grassy smell which I personally I pleased about as I didn't really want to smell like I rolled around on the lawn.

The other thing I like about Lush products is that when you use them in your bath or shower then the whole bathroom and our adjoining bedroom gets an air freshen as well. This ‘Grass’ gel does not have the same strong smell so it doesn’t seem to linger in the same way as other stronger Lush smells. One point marked down for that as I like the air freshening quality in the other smells.

Who is this product for?

As Lush products are not full of unpleasant chemicals it should be okay for sensitive skin but it is always advisable to check if something you are going to use contains anything that you are allergic to.

This is a Lush unisex product meaning it is suitable for males and females and I would agree that it doesn’t have a flowery feminine scent and I can’t imagine a man being embarrassed to smell of this but I really like it too .It probably wouldn’t be the one I would choose to give to anyone as it is a very special smell – I can imagine you’d either love or hate it.

Is it just a shower gel then?

Lush shower gels can all be used as bath gels and shampoos as well. I tend not to use them as shampoos as I always have shampoo for dry hair and like my conditioner to match. I tend to use the Lush bar shampoos when travelling to save weight and spillage accidents. I do also use the solid conditioner for travelling for the same reason. However if you were going on short holiday you could take this small bottle ( 100ml is allowed in hand baggage) and it would serve as a shower gel and shampoo and that way you need not take lots of bottles and can still travel light with only carryon luggage. I was told that you can even wash your clothes with this but it is an expensive option for this purpose in my view and I’m not sure I’d want my clothes smelling of grass.

Summary

I did quite like this very different bath and shower gel, it isn’t often you get a bath/beauty product that smells of grass after all. It is so soothing and gentle on my skin which is quite sensitive and sometimes reacts badly to shower gels. It smells very fresh but it is not a smell that I would rush back for, different but not what I am really looking for in my bath. It is very expensive but as you only need a small amount it does last quite a long time so probably works out as economical as some others in the long term. I’m not sure that I would bother with this Lush product again, it is lovely and works well but for that money I want something that I really like the smell of and I like smelling of and grass is not really in that category.

Weakest points
Looks like some kid made it in a science lab its an awful looking product like super slime.
Summary
Sls and parabens in this one so its one I would avoid on that basis but someone bought me it so I used it I am not a fan I suppose I have to give it a plus as you don't need loads of it to use I wasn't overly keen on the smell but it was the look of it that really put me off.
